Teaching

  • I organised and run FRCS orth teaching course every year at Birmingham
  • I enjoy teaching at all levels and am extremely keen to teach medical students. I recently had Positive feed back from the 4th year medical students from the University of Birmingham. I teach them regularly at bedside, clinics and theatres.
  • I was a part of Faculty for the advanced shoulder arthroscopy course conducted by Depuy-Mitek every year in Liverpool.
  • I was also faculty member in wrist and hand course for FRCS Orth at Wrightington and advanced knee arthroscopy course conducted in Canada.
  • I was again a faculty member at Wrightington Hand course for FRCS orth exams
  • I take active interest in teaching SpR’s taking exit exams on one to one basis.

Research

I have successfully completed my Masters in Orthopaedic Surgery, my thesis being on the fixation of proximal humerus fractures. I have also been involved in both basic science and clinical research studies. Through the University of Liverpool I was involved in projects looking at the role of MMPs in soft tissue sarcoma, Dupuytren’s disease and rotator cuff disease. The results have been presented in both British and American Orthopaedic Research Societies. I was the clinical lead in a level I prospective randomised study on arthroscopic shoulder stabilisation and I have been involved in several other retrospective and prospective studies which have been presented at various international meetings and published in peer reviewed journals.

Completed Research Projects

  • Use of plain Radiographs in the classification of Distal Radius fractures
  • Outcome of cuff repair & SAD following calcium removal versus calcium removal & SAD
  • Arthroscopic labral tears repair with capsular plication reinforcement
  • Correlation of clinical, MRI scan and arthroscopy findings in patients with SLAP lesions
  • Inter-observer reliability and intra-observer reproducibility of the Weber classification system of ankle fracture
  • Arthroscopic stabilisation of the shoulder: a prospective randomised study of absorbable versus non-absorbable suture anchors
  • Mid term results of PlantTan plate for proximal humerus fracture (MCh Thesis)
  • Arthroscopic release of coraco-humeral ligament for resistant frozen shoulder
  • Clavicular hook plate for lateral end fractures
  • Degeneration or remodelling: MMPs in the torn rotator cuff
  • Vascularity, hypoxia & necrosis in soft tissue neoplasms of the extremities
  • Matrix metalloproteinases & degenerative changes in the torn rotator cuff
  • Gelatinase MMPS in palmar fibromatosis: Immunohistochemistry & Zymography
